Rules & Regulations

  1. Any entry not conforming to these rules and regulations will be eliminated from the Parade and entry fees will NOT be refunded. All decisions of the Parada del Sol Parade Committee are final.
  2. Parade applications must be accompanied by a recent photograph (cannot be returned) or sketch in the case of floats. Be sure to include a brief typewritten description (Script)of your entry to be used by the announcers along the parade route. APPLICATIONS RECEIVED WITHOUT A SCRIPT WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED. *****SCRIPTS must be 75 words maximum.
  3. Your staging requirements and final Instructions will be emailed to you on or before January 31st ,2022** YOU WILL RECEIVE YOUR STAGE NUMBER THE MORNING OF THE PARADE**
  4. All entries must be at their designated line-up areas and report to Parade Staging Committee by 7:30 am.
  5. CONSUMPTION OF ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES PRIOR TO OR DURING PARADE WILL NOT BE TOLERATED. ANYONE USING ALCOHOL ON THE PARADE ROUTE AND/OR IN LINE-UP AREA WILL SUBJECT THEMSELVES TO ARREST BY THE SCOTTSDALE POLICE DEPARTMENT.
  6. “Gaps” in the parade (i.e. large spaces between entries) must be avoided. All entrants must maintain the set pace of the parade (120 steps per minute). Any entry causing a gap greater than specified will be asked by the parade committee volunteers to close the gap. Anyone who cannot keep up with the pace will be subject to removal from the parade.
  7. The safety of our participants and spectators is our number one concern. Thus, for safety reasons, anyone riding horseback is not permitted to wear athletic shoes and hiking boots. All riders should wear LONG PANTS and BOOTS (i.e. “cowboy boots”).
  8. Children under the age of 6 years will not be permitted to ride horseback.
  9. All children ages 6 to 12 MUST wear safety helmets & MUST MEET ASTM SEI safety standards. Bike Helmets are NOT permitted.
  10. All children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult / guardian.
  11. All Parade entries shall exhibit proper disposition and control of all animals in a parade environment.
  12. ALL HORSES/Animals SHOULD BE FRESHLY GROOMED THE DAY OF THE PARADE. The Parade’s Staging Committee will inspect all entries. Horses/Animals not groomed to the Staging committee’s satisfaction will not be allowed in the parade.
  13. All light and heavy horse hitches shall have an assistant in the front seat of the wagon.
  14. Any hitches in excess of two horses shall have at least (1) assistant on the ground.
  15. LONE RIDERS will not be permitted in the parade. Anyone wishing to ride a horse in the parade must be affiliated with, and ride with, an approved group.
  16. **** ALL HORSES SHALL BE ATENDED PRIOR TO AND AFTER EVENT. ABSOLUTELY NOHORSES SHALL BE LEFT UNATTENDED AT ANY TIME DURING PARADE AND TRAILS ENDFESTIVAL.
  17. All flags or colors must be rolled until the line of march has been reached (parade’s starting line).
  18. Scottsdale City Ordinance does not permit the discharge of firearms within city limits. ALL GUNS MUST BE EMPTY! Anyone violating this rule will subject themselves to arrest by the Scottsdale Police Department.
  19. In the interest of safety, the throwing of anything (candy, paper, etc.) by parade entrants will not be permitted. No Balloons! The Parada del Sol will not be held responsible for anyone injured by violation of this rule.
  20. No open flames, fireworks, pyrotechnics, etc. are permitted in the parade without proper approvals and permits from the Fire Department.
  21. Advertising and identification of floats should be kept to a minimum and in good taste. Sign letters should notbe larger than 12 inches, without the approval of the Parade Chairman. Any advertising that includes thename of a business is considered a “commercial entry” and is subject to the “commercial entry fees.”
  22. Judging of all entries will take place during the Parade. No one will be eligible for parade awards unlessproperly positioned prior to the start of the parade.
  23. For liability and accountability purposes, all parade entries must complete a parade entry form and be approved, prior to entering Drinkwater and participating in the parade.
  24. ***No Application=No entry, no parade participation.
  25. Under the Internal Revenue Code, all section 501(c)(3) organizations are absolutely prohibited from directlyor indirectly participating in, or intervening in, any political campaign on behalf of (or in opposition to) anycandidate for elective public office.
  26. ALL ENTRIES MUST PROVIDE A CERTIFICATE OF INSURANCE. A MINUMUM $1,000,000.00LIABILITY POLICY IS REQUIRED TO COVER YOUR GROUPS PARTICIPATION IN THEPARADE. THE CERTIFICATE MUST INDICATE THE NAME OF YOUR ORGANIZATION AS ITAPPEARS ON THIS APPLICATION. THE CERTIFICATE MUST ALSO LIST THE CITY OFSCOTTSDALE AND THE PARADA DEL SOL PARADE AS ADDITIONALLY INSURED.

I further agree that I shall make no claim against the Scottsdale Charros, Parada del Sol, the City of Scottsdale, and their sponsors and hold the same harmless from any and all personal injury and / or property damage arising from the 2022 Parada del Sol Parade.

Insurance Certification

All entries must provide a certificate of insurance. A minimum $1,000,000 liability policy is required to cover your groups participation in the parade. The certificate must indicate the name of your organization as it appears on this application. The certificate must also list the city of Scottsdale and the Parada Del Sol Parade as additionally insured.

Arizona Revised Statutes ARS 12-553

12-553. Limited liability of equine owners and owners of equine facilities
  1. An equine owner or an agent of an equine owner who regardless of consideration allows anotherperson to take control of an equine is not liable for an injury to or the death of the person if:
    1. The person has taken control of the equine from the owner or agent when the injury or deathoccurs.
    2. The person or the parent or legal guardian of the person if the person is under eighteen years ofage has signed a release before taking control of the equine.
    3. The owner or agent has properly installed suitable tack or equipment, or the person has personallytacked the equine with tack the person owned, leased or borrowed. If the person has personallytacked the equine, the person assumes full responsibility for the suitability, installation and conditionof the tack.
    4. The owner or agent assigns the person to a suitable equine based on a reasonableinterpretation of the person's representation of his skills, health and experience with and knowledge of equines.
  2. Subsection A does not apply to an equine owner or agent of the equine owner who is grossly negligent orcommits willful, wanton or intentional acts or omissions.
  3. An owner, lessor or agent of any riding stable, rodeo ground, training or boarding stable or other privateproperty that is used by a rider or handler of an equine with or without the owner's permission is not liablefor injury to or death of the equine or the rider or handler.
  4. Subsection C does not apply to an owner, lessor or agent of any riding stable, rodeo ground, training orboarding stable or other private property that is used by a rider or handler of an equine if either of thefollowing applies:
    1. The owner, lessor or agent knows or should know that a hazardous condition exists, and theowner, lessor or agent fails to disclose the hazardous condition to a rider or handler of an equine.
    2. The owner, lessor or agent is grossly negligent or commits willful, wanton or intentional acts oromissions.
  5. As used in this section:
    1. "Equine" means a horse, pony, mule, donkey or ass.
    2. "Release" means a document that a person signs before taking control of an equine from theowner or owner's agent and that acknowledges that the person is aware of the inherent risksassociated with equine activities, is willing and able to accept full responsibility for his ownsafety and welfare and releases the equine owner or agent from liability unless the equineowner or agent is grossly negligent or commits willful, wanton or intentional acts or omissions
